The domed ceiling to what was the booking hall is a masterpiece of Art Noveau - trying to rival any of the other cathedrals to transport of central Europe. The booking offices are now converted to shops, but you still sit having a cheap coffee (14 Kr last time I was here) by the iron ballastrades and imagine you are waiting to catch a train in the 1920's to Milan, Vienna, Budapest...
If she is still working there the tall waitress in the maid outfit is an absolute babe - and she knows it. The cupboard was indeed full... Great name eh ? Although only starting out as a truck stop, this company has been going for some 25 years and has consistently been able to deliver food that is just a cut above the normal standard of fare you would expect at a service station in Ireland or the UK. It is very welcoming of families and the service areas are smart and packed with useful amenities - like good bogs ! The one on the main N4 road just before the fork of the N4 and N6 is the original (Moyvalley), and most well known of the half-dozen or so restaurants in the chain. Favorite Dish: I defy you not to read the breakfast menu and not end up with saliva in you mouth... Amazing decor - and all for sale ! This is some coffeeshop - anywhere else it would be twice the price and tourist 'hot-spot'. It's basically a cafe set up on the top floor of a large shop selling furniture, tiles, heaters lamps etc. The Main part of the shop is converted from a former 'Sack store' as the name suggest where nerchandise was held before being transferred to the nearby port. The Cafe is stuffed with wooden archways, carvings, funky table, leather sofas, ornaments and all sorts of other stuff - much of it for sale. It is light and airy with good coffee and wine. The food is mainly italian and "brunchish". They do an excellent (if relatively expensive) bangers and mash that is the best I've had in a long time. Open open during the day and on Sunday afternoons. If this place was in London, it would be packed to the gunnels, twice the price, and in every guidebook going.

Who ate all the pies ? I did - they were great This has been an eating house for centuries. The cellar is all candlelit and romantic and the main floor is all wooden tables, wooden floors and blackboards. The Kitchen is upstairs, and the serving staff certainly get a workout up and downstairs in their wonderfully old-fashioned attire. We often try to get a table in the early evening when they have a "beat the Clock" promotion - so a set two couse meal at say 6.30 pm only costs 6 pounds 30 plus another quid.. Reckon on 20-25 pounds a head at other times.
The game pie is fantastic. Proper crust and deep filled with gravy smothering at least three types of game. Many of the other pies are great too, especially the ones that use beer. The rest of the food is italian / french / spanish stuff - all cooked well. The only drawback is the sweet trolley which is a bit on the pricey side. Free heart attacks by sourbugger Restaurant Name: Every restaurant / cafe / stall in town Type: Fast Food Description: There are a number of high class establishments in Skegness that take the finest chipping potatoes, lightly fry them in the finest oils and serve them with relish and cheery smile. You didn't really believe that did you? Lots of places sell the most disgusting grease covered conglomorations your stomach will ever meet. Favorite Dish: Chips when your drunk - remember if you want to look like a northerner put gravy or mushy peas on them. If you want to look like a southerner put tomato sauce on them. If you want to look like a local put vomit on them. NB for non-Britons : Mushy peas are a disgusting item which looks like guacamole or child-sick turned green depending upon your point of view. A pearl of an aphrodisiac In the Corner of the Harrods Food Hall, a tourist site in itself stands the Oyster bar. You sit up on high stools as the food is freshly prepared before you. It's not supriseingly a tad on the expensive side, but if you share half-a-dozen (beginning at about 12 pounds) you can think of it as an extravagent starter and then go on elsewhere. Leave a Comment

Great stuff - even when your sober! It may seem somewhat incongruous in a city with so many gourmet restaurants to be recommending a Turkish Kebab shop - but they served me one of the finest kebabs I've ever eaten. To be fair most kebabs taste wonderful when you down one after a skinfull, but on this occasion I was completely and utterly stone-cold sober. The place itself is painted in warm colours with a few nice touches, such as the prints on the wall and the various light fittings. I especially liked the hood over the cooking hood, which was a cleverly converted half-shell of one of those enormous copper vats that you find in breweries. The road this restaurant is on is developing into an alternative eating area with a range of reasonably priced Turkish, Italian, Chinese and Thai restaurants together with a couple of bars and cafes. Meg Ryan did not need to act ! This small restaurant only has nine tables , but the quality of the food is nop notch. The initimate atmosphere is very pleseant without being too 'poncy', although the abundance of mirrors is a little disconcerting. We intially ate off the 14 Euro menu - which provided three very good courses : much of it with a local flavour such as the stew made from local bulls. We ate again on our last night and moved up to the 28 Euro - which included a very sumptuously cooked whole brest of duck. My only criticism is that the wine list was very limited - but the house white was very plateable anyway. Europe A-Z
Whatever is on the menu for desserts, just ask to substitute it for the homemade Creme Brulee. It certainly passed sourbugger's Gourmet test of Creme Brulee : hold a spoon exactly six inches above the dish and when dropped vertically it should just crack the top layer. It was so good that if Meg Ryan had filmed that famous scene from when Harry me Sally here, she could have had a MULTIPLE orgasm - and not even have bothered to act. Before you get the impression that Sourbugger has lost the plot and has started recommending Mucky Dee's just hear me out. Cambridge is trying desperately to introduce the modern world into it's ancient and hallowed city centre. McDonalds can thus act as a methaphor for this process that is happening across the city in terms of shopping, transport, hotels, colleges and housing. Firstly, the restaurant must not announce itself too garishly. Entrance is via a narrow entrance off Neal's yard with only a simple 'M' gently swinging above the door. Secondly, the restaurant must work around the pre-existing structures. It does this by createing a space out of old backyards and the like. Thirdly, it must at one and the same time make reference to an ancient glorious past and a bright tomorrow. It does this by having a roman forum theme with various broken columns about - and having half a dozen internet stations for hire. Like the city itself, it has to somehow find a way to integrate the modern world into its medieval heritage. P.S they also serve burgers.
